HIGHLIGHT OF EPISODE 38 OF THE SERVICOM HELP DESK RADIO PROGRAMME
Episode 38 of the SERVICOM help desk radio programme which featured on 6th November 2018 had the National Agency for Food, Drug, Administration and Control (NAFDAC) as guest with Director Public Affairs, Dr Abubakar Jemoh and Mrs Favour Ugochi, NAFDAC Nodal Officer representing the office.
SERVICOM National Coordinator and Chief Executive in her opening remarks noted the increasing gains of the programmes and appreciated the response from MDAs on the various complaints forwarded to them for resolution.
NAFDAC said NAFDAC was established in the 1993 to among other things safe guard what people consume, Cosmetics and Packaged Water used by people as well as issue registration number to products.
We were under Ministry of Health before been carved out as an Agency; we are celebrating 25yrs this year. Though we have our challenges but safe guarding public health is our priority. We also do intelligence gathering, we are just 3,000 officers over-seeing the millions of Nigerians.
“We greatly rely on statistics, we fought fake drug under Late Prof. Dora Akunyeli and reduced the rate of counterfeit drugs in Nigeria. The Scratch and Text came in 2010 to check the authenticity of any drug bought in a pharmacy, we also have true scan machine to discourage counterfeit drugs”, he said.
On the issue of drugs from China made with human flesh, he said the Office had officially alerted the Police, pharmaceutical companies, immigrations and have given information to the public.
“From the feedback and statistics we are getting here, we are going to work with The Human Rights Radio, we appreciate the National Coordinator of SERVICOM for bringing us to the studio to enlighten Nigerians” he said.
A one minute silence was observed in honour of former Director General of NAFDAC, Late Mrs Dora Akunyeli.
