The Acting National Coordinator and Chief Executive Officer of SERVICOM Presidency, Mrs. Helen Lawal, has again reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to citizen-focused service delivery across Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) as her engagements to commemorate the 2026 International Customer Service Week entered day five.
Mrs. Lawal stated this during her official visits to the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on 9th October, 2026 in Abuja. The theme for the week-long celebration is, ‘THE EXTRA MILE,’ which she said was “a vital call to action for public institutions to elevate service delivery, foster innovation, and build public trust across Nigeria.”
In her keynote addresses at both institutions, Mrs. Lawal maintained that going the extra mile was essential to transforming modern public service into a proactive, empathetic, and accountable enterprise. She stated that the “theme aligned directly with SERVICOM’s core mandate of service excellence, integrity, accountability, efficiency, and commitment”. She described it as a strategic directive to elevate public sector performance in national identity management and electoral governance.

According to her, modern public service must consistently exceed citizen expectations through seamless digital processes, data integrity, and transparent democratic access. She urged the two agencies to “deepen citizen engagement through faster support channels such as self-service portals, active helpdesks, and dedicated call centers”. She also stressed the importance of internal customer care, noting that leadership must prioritise employee engagement to ensure frontline staff feel valued and motivated to deliver world-class service.
Mrs. Lawal applauded the Director General/CEO, Engr. Abisoye Coker-Odusote, the Management of NIMC, and the SERVICOM Department for creating platforms to recognise frontline personnel who went the extra mile in their responsibility of handling the various aspects of Nigeria’s National Identity Management.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, the Chairman Health and Welfare Committee, Prof. Rhoda Gumus described going the Extra Mile as additional steps taken to ensure that the onerous responsibility of the Commission in managing the electoral process and contributing to the sustenance Nigeria’s democracy is upheld. She noted that the “confidence of the citizens in the electoral system is influenced not only by the policies and procedures we established, but also how the Commission interacts with the people we serve.”

“It also means taking ownership of our responsibility rather than waiting to be reminded, finding solutions instead of merely identifying problems”. She added. Therefore, “go the extra mile in your office, go the extra mile for your colleagues, go the extra mile for the citizens we serve, go the extra mile for the commission and above all go the extra mile for Nigeria”. She further admonished the staff of the Commission.
In his vote of thanks, the Ag. Director, Administration and Welfare Mr. Alozie Alphonsus, appreciated the National Coordinator and her team and assured that INEC staff were willing and ready to go the extra mile in making the 2027 General Elections successful, credible and acceptable. A major highlight of the event was the Health Workshop to create awareness on cardiovascular wellness.
