Demonstrating a resolute commitment to accountability, structural reform, and citizen-focused governance, two federal institutions have rolled out high-profile commemorations for the 2026 Customer Service Week. Centered around the defining global theme, “The Extra Mile,” recent celebrations at the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) and the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) spotlighted frontline resilience, regulatory efficiency, and a renewed drive to exceed public expectations across Nigeria’s public sector.
Setting the tone for the day’s technical sessions from a national oversight perspective, the Acting National Coordinator and CEO of the SERVICOM Office, Presidency, Mrs. Helen Lawal, commended the CCE, Management, and the NUPRC SERVICOM Unit for organising the event. She noted that “celebrating frontline staff who manage day-to-day customer needs aligns directly with global best practices, reinforcing the core culture of going “The Extra Mile.” Mrs. Lawal stressed that the theme served as a vital strategic call to action for MDAs to reaffirm their commitment to service excellence, expressing confidence that NUPRC Management will continue to ensure its internal workforce feels valued through meaningful employee engagement.

At the NUPRC headquarters in Abuja on 20th October, 2026, the celebration drew key government officials, union leaders, and industry stakeholders. Delivering the opening address on behalf of the Commission Chief Executive (CCE), Mrs. Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, the Director of Host Communities, Mrs. Ejiro Ufondu, celebrated the theme as a reflection of NUPRC’s identity as a stakeholder-centric business enabler. Highlighting recent milestones in licensing rounds, production growth, and regulatory speed, the CCE emphasised that “NUPRC’s responsibility extends beyond processing applications to fostering a transparent, predictable, and efficient regulatory environment that drives sustainable national economic growth.”
In her welcome address, the Deputy Director of SERVICOM at NUPRC, Hajiya Muinat Bello, warmly welcomed dignitaries, including the Acting National Coordinator of SERVICOM Presidency, and urged staff to make going the “extra, extra mile” their default standard, noting that “sustained regulatory efficiency translates directly into increased government revenue, better infrastructure, employment, food security, and positioning Nigeria as an investment destination of choice.”
Adding a strong inter-ministerial perspective, the representative of the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Petroleum Resources, Mr. Akinwumi Akintan, commended NUPRC as a strategic interface between government, investors, and host communities, noting that the Commission’s investor-friendly engagements and open regulations aligned seamlessly with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The push for institutional excellence similarly resonated deep within the apex administrative hub of the nation during the OSGF Customer Service Week celebration. In her welcome address, the Deputy Director of SERVICOM at the OSGF, Mrs. Beatrice Asuquo, reminded public servants of their sacred duty to treat every citizen with courtesy, fairness, and efficiency while responding promptly to feedback.
Delivering an inspiring keynote address at the OSGF, SERVICOM Ag. National Coordinator Mrs. Helen Lawal lauded the leadership and internal SERVICOM unit for hosting the event, describing “The Extra Mile” as a vital strategic call to action tailored to the unique mandate of the OSGF as the central engine room and coordinator of government policies. She emphasised that going the extra mile at the OSGF translated into proactively streamlining policy execution, fostering seamless inter-agency collaboration, eliminating bureaucratic bottlenecks, and upholding absolute efficiency in governance.
Reinforcing these charges, the Permanent Secretary of the General Services Office, Dr. Ibrahim Abubakar Kana, mni, reminded staff that every Nigerian is a customer of the OSGF and must be treated with utmost excellence. Urging personnel to embrace ongoing Federal Civil Service reforms, such as Enterprise Content Management and Performance Management Systems, he implored all staff to fully imbibe the EPIC Culture by remaining Efficient by coming to work on time and meeting timelines, Productive by elevating personal performance, Incorruptible by discharging duties with integrity and without expecting gratification, and Citizen-Centred by putting Nigeria first and focusing strictly on actions that drove national development.
The high-level OSGF event, which witnessed a robust attendance including the Permanent Secretary of the Cabinet Affairs Office (CAO), Dr. John Chidiebere Ezeamama, the representative of the Permanent Secretary for Political and Economic Affairs, directors, union representatives, and staff, concluded with renewed pledges across both agencies to make exceptional service a permanent, year-round standard.
